I know, I know. It's not even Thanksgiving yet, but with Christmas under six weeks away I wanted to make sure you know about this in time! Recently we met a couple who has come up with a product that helps all of us focus on the true meaning Christmas. Knowing how it is easy to get caught up in the “Gimme, Gimme” of the season, Lisa and Patrick Dorough created the “Christmas Angel.” They wanted to instill in their kids that the meaning of Christmas is giving, not receiving. They wanted to be sure that the focus of the Christmas season was not about what I am going to get, but what can I give. They wanted to challenge their family to look for ways to show God's love at Christmas rather than just being good because someone is watching so that you get what you want.

The Christmas Angel arrives at your house before Christmas and leaves little notes everyday, suggesting kind things to do for others. You get to name your angel and your kids wait in anticipation each day to see what thoughtful act it asks them to do. It could be as simple as “Say a kind word to a stranger.” or as elaborate as “Bake a cake for your neighbor.” The whole purpose is to help us remember that God gave us the greatest gift at Christmas, salvation through His Son.

We all have a choice, everyday, to focus on the blessings that surround us and be grateful for what God has given us, or look at what we don't have and always be wanting more. Lisa and Patrick's hope is that the Christmas Angel will help us all remember that it is better to give than receive.
